Netflix has renewed Narcos: Mexico for a third season, but the show will have a major change.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Eric Newman will no longer be part of the series, after five successful seasons. Newman would be replaced by co-creator Carlo Bernard, who was previously the show’s executive producer. The reason for Newman’s exit was so he could focus on his other upcoming projects with Netflix.
“I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, and immensely proud of what this spectacular team has accomplished with these shows, ”said Newman The Hollywood Reporter. “When we started this business – to do a show in two languages, in a country that had never seen this kind of production – it seemed crazy. But Netflix saw its potential then and their confidence in us never wavered. Carlo Bernard is the first person I spoke to about this project over 10 years ago and I am extremely happy to be leaving the piloting of the third season of Narcos: Mexico in his extremely competent hands.
Another surprising addition will be the return of Wagner Moura. Of course, not like Pablo Escobar, but Moura will now direct several episodes for Narcos: Mexico Season 3.
New season announcement marks the sixth installment of Netflix’s mega-hit Narcos universe. The show remains one of the streaming giant’s most popular shows of all time.
