Kaun Banega Crorepati controversy
Similarly, a BJP MP from Maharashtra approached the police, demanding action against Bachchan and the creators of the popular TV show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 12 for allegedly hurting Hindu feelings.
“There has been an attempt to insult Hindus and create discord between Hindus and Buddhists who live in harmony,” tweeted Abhimanyu Pawar, Ausa BJP lawmaker in Latur district.
Pawar was referring to a KBC episode featuring social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anup Soni in the hot seat opposite Bachchan. They were asked the following question: “On December 25, 1927, Dr. B R Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture?” The options were: (A) Vishnu Purana (B) Bhagavad Gita, (C) Rigved and (D) Manusmriti. “
“In 1927, Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti for ideologically justifying caste discrimination and untouchability and burned its copies,” added Amitabh Bachchan, which angered the BJP minister endlessly Pawar.
“The four options concerned the Hindu religion. It is clear that the motive for this question was to hurt the feelings of Hindus, ”Pawar said in his police complaint, according to HT.
“This question spreads the message that Hindu religious scriptures are meant to burn and unleashes hostility between Hindus and followers of Buddhism,” he added. On Twitter, many echoed Pawar’s sentiments, with some accusing the show of carrying out “leftist propaganda.” Vivek Agnihotri, filmmaker happy for the tweets, also shared a clip from the show on the microblogging site and claimed that KBC had been “hijacked by Commies”.
